The goal of career development is to equip all students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to explore careers, make informed postsecondary decisions, develop career readiness skills, and successfully transition to life after high school.

The ACT at VCHS

The state funded all junior ACT will take place on Wednesday, February 24, 2027.

The ACT plays a crucial role in college admissions, scholarship opportunities, and demonstrating academic readiness for higher education. The ACT is also connected to VU Scholarships, which is a platform that connects students to scholarship offers from hundreds of partner universities instantaneously. ACT scores can also act as prerequisites for dual credit classes here at the high school.

Although the ACT serves as a great opportunity for all junior students to see where they're at academically, we understand that this may not be the right choice for every student. For parents and guardians who wish to opt their child out of this free testing session an opt out form will be sent out to parents and guardians via IC Messenger towards the end of January.

A make-up testing date will be scheduled for the following week and will be communicated with students who miss the testing date due to an excused absence.

Students with IEPs, 504s, or ILPs may be eligible to receive accommodations on the ACT. Counselors will be in contact with students and parents/guardians regarding the ACT approval process, but questions regarding accommodations for the ACT at VCHS can be sent to Mrs. Dantzson. Dual and Concurrent Credit Information

1) Students must have a minimum (current & cumulative) 2.0 GPA
2) Dual Credit/Concurrent Credit courses are available for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, however most courses are targeted for juniors/seniors.

Internship Program

The VCHS internship program allows students to explore a possible career field through real-world experience.
VCHS Internship Handbook
Students apply for internship in the spring of their junior year. Application for 2026-2027 closes on April 3, 2026.
Internship starts in the fall semester. It can be for one to two class periods of the student's day, and can go through the spring semester.

Requirements

Requirements to enter the Program:

Senior Status
At least one open class period, for the fall semester
Other classes are on track to graduate
Complete the e-Application process/interview by the spring (junior year) deadline
2.0 minimum GPA
Be in good standing with behavior, attendance, and overall work ethic

NOTE: Due to enrollment numbers, not all applicants can be accepted into the internship program.

Requirements during the Internship:

Conduct a formal interview with the potential business partner (when appropriate).
Set SMART goals and expectations with the business partner.
Communicate on a regular basis with the Program Coordinator (physically and/or electronically).
Participate in regularly scheduled workshops to enhance employment and 21st century skills.
Keep a daily log of hours worked. (Monthly Timesheet)
Journal and reflect on the experiences.
Complete all internship assignments on time, as a portfolio collection, for the Final Project (choice of three).
Maintain a minimum 80% grade in order to remain in the program at semester.

Final Presentation of Intern:

The final presentation includes communication and project deliver during Senior Night and during the Internship Showcase (promotional event). Conversations during these events could include, but are not limited the following:

How the student exhibits, reflects on, and analyzes the effectiveness of the focus skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication, teamwork, application of technology, and ethics.
Analyze how the High School curriculum received by the student was used during the internship experience.
Day-to-day operation, activities and responsibilities of the internship and profession.
Challenges, problems, obstacles and rewards associated with the profession.
Overall culture and environment of the profession and internship experience.
Preparation/education needed to enter the profession.
Resources relevant to the profession.
The collection of the internship assignments via the final project (Trifold poster, e-portfolio website, or notebook).

STEP 2. Fill out the online internship application

Please note, when communicating with potential internship partners/supervisors, the communication should be done in a professional email or face-to-face, by the student (not done by a parent/guardian).

NOTE: All students will be informed by school email if they progress to phase III, for the interview. You MUST check your school email.

PHASE II:

STEP 1. Arrive at your scheduled interview time. (April)

Bring 3 copies of Resume
3 Recommendation Letters (at least 1 must be an out of district employee and no family members) **NOTE: Always provide at least 1-2 week(s) notice for your references! CLICK HERE for recommendation forms .
Chromebook "About Me" presentation, the organization and content of the slideshow is determined by the student.

STEP 2. Follow up meeting with high school staff (April.)

PHASE III:

STEP 1. Required intern/parent meeting (May)

STEP 2. Locate and confirm a placement by July 1. Confirmation paperwork due by end of July.

VCHS Transcript Requests

Students can request that official copies of their transcript be sent to institutions of their choice by completing the following steps. If a student simply needs an unofficial copy of their transcript, this can be found on their Infinite Campus account.

For any questions regarding transcripts please reach out to the school registrar, Michelle Romig, at michelle.romig@usd262.net. If your need for a transcript occurs in the summer please reach out to district office at 316-755-7000, as our registrar and counselors are not in office at that time.
